COOKIE POLICY

Definition and purpose

Cookies are small text files containing information, which are placed on your device when websites are uploaded to a browser. By default, most web browsers are to automatically accept cookies. Cookies are widely used to “remember” you and your preferences, both for a single visit (through “session cookies”) or for repeated visits (through “persistent cookies”). Cookies ensure a consistent and efficient experience to visitors and perform essential functions, such as enabling users to register and remain connected.

Cookies may be set by the site being visited (“proprietary cookies”) or by third parties, i.e. by a website other than that being visited by the user, providing contents or advertising and analysis services on the visited website (“third-party cookies”). This is possible because every site can house elements (pictures, maps, sounds, specific links to web pages of other domains, etc.) that reside on servers other than the server of the visited website. Both websites and HTML e-mails may contain also other tracking technologies, such as web beacons or pixels. They are small transparent images providing statistics for purposes similar to those of cookies. They are often used in combination with cookies, although they are not stored on the user’s device in the same way. Therefore, if you disable cookies, web beacons may still be stored, but with limited functioning.

Cookies are used for different purposes. Some cookies are necessary for technical reasons; some provide a customized experience both to visitors and to registered users; some allow the display of advertisement by selected third-party networks. Some cookies may be placed when a page is uploaded or when a visitor does a given action (clicking on the “Like” or “Follow” buttons of a post, for example). Many cookies we use are placed only if you are a registered user (so, for example, you do not have to log in every time), whereas other are placed every time you visit our website, irrespectively of whether or not you have an account.

Measure of 8 May 2014 issued by the Italian Data Protection Authority identified two macro-categories of cookies: “technical” and “profiling”.

Technical cookies

Technical cookies enable the user to browse the web page, platform or application and receive requested services. They are not used for other purposes and are generally placed directly by the website owner. Without such cookies, some activities could not be performed or would be more complex and/or less safe, such as home banking ones (displaying the statement of transactions, credit transfers, payment of utility bills, etc.), for which cookies that allow user identification and user identification to be maintained within a session are essential.

Technical cookies can be subdivided into:

  • Browsing or session cookies, which ensure smooth browsing and use of the website (enabling, for example, to make a purchase or to authenticate in order to access restricted areas);
  • Cookie analytics, similar to technical cookies if used directly by the site manager to collect information, in aggregate form, on the number of users and on how they visit the site;
  • Functional Cookies, which allow the user to browse the site in accordance with a set of selected criteria (e.g. Language, the products selected for purchase) with the aim of improving the service provided to users.

Profiling cookies

These cookies are used to track the user’s action in browsing and to profile his or her preferences, habits, choices, etc. With these cookies, advertising messages in line with the user’s preferences as profiled while browsing can be sent to the user’s device.

Use of Cookies by this website

This website uses technical browsing cookies, analytics and function cookies.

Other types of cookies or third party instruments that may use them
